As Abu Dhabi moved towards achieving its goal of becoming a leading regional capital of culture, the TV program “Prince of Poets” was launched in 2007 to put poetry again in the centre of the cultural scene.
Each season, the program receives thousands of poems from Arab poets around the world, and the jury sorts and evaluates the participating works, after which more than 150 selected poets are hosted in the capital, Abu Dhabi. The jury also conducts individual interviews with each poet. Then, the best 40 poets are selected from the applicants to enter the audition stage to reach the list of 20 poets who will participate in the live episodes of the program.
At the conclusion of each season, the first-place winner receives the title of “Prince of Poets,” a hairpiece, the emirate’s ring, and a cash prize of one million UAE dirhams. The second-place winner receives a cash prize of 500 thousand dirhams, and the third-place winner receives 300 thousand dirhams. dirhams, and the winner in fourth place gets 200 thousand dirhams, while the winner in fifth place gets 100 thousand dirhams.

The Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs Management Committee was established by a decision issued by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on February 3 , 2013 .
The vision and strategy of the committee aims to enhance the values of loyalty and belonging through the practice of the authentic Emirati heritage.
